Unexistence
Belarusian underground culture does not belong to the public life of the country. Most ordinary men in the street will never witness anything beyond the usual. In spite of its elusive existence, underground culture in cities like the Belarusian capital of Minsk is embodied in a variety of ways. The creators of the Secret Kitchen present famous American movies to small audiences, organize closed concerts and announce the opening nights of plays at the last moment. Political, social or personal reasons force people in the underground to create on the edge and be content with little; nevertheless it is an amazing world which has power, hopes for self-expression and the sincerity of its ideas. Everything ??� from a youth magazine which has a circulation of 299 copies to a provocative performance in the museum of contemporary art ??� is the result of professional work. Among the issues raised are reflections on the topical issues of contemporary society, a search for identity, the analysis of state repression and the problem of showing contemporary art. Musicians in the electro band ?�?�?� (EChE) have refused to be interviewed by a journalist who has spent a lot of time trying to contact them, so we see that the creators of underground culture do not need popular recognition. Sometimes several like-minded persons mean more than an opportunity to become popular with the masses.
